Warren Buffett Steps Down from Berkshire Hathaway Leadership Role
Warren Buffett, the iconic CEO of Berkshire Hathaway, has announced he will no longer write his famed annual shareholder letters or lead the company's annual meetings. His 2025 letter marked his 60th and final edition. The 95-year-old investing legend confirmed Greg Abel as his successor, with Abel set to assume the CEO role on January 1, 2026.
Buffett emphasized his continued confidence in Berkshire's future under Abel's leadership, praising his performance as vice chair. While stepping back from major corporate communications, Buffett plans to maintain some traditions, including annual Thanksgiving messages and limited shareholder correspondence.
The announcement coincides with Buffett accelerating donations of his Berkshire shares to family foundations. This move, he clarified, reflects neither diminished faith in the company nor concerns about its leadership transition.
